Congratulations, however not the highest honour. The Ordine al merito della Repubblica italiana has five classes. Commendatore is the condecoration corresponding the third class.

And when did she last perform in Italy?
Well, she performed with the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia relatively recently, and is scheduled to again in Dec with Pappano. And of course in Abbado’s last years, there were concerts with his Bologna-based Orchestra Mozart etc.

Martha Argerich deserves every award and honour she ever gets. In a world of mediocrity and the facile her genuine artistry is always a breath of fresh air. Long live Martha !
