Sicklist: Super-young Berlin stand-in gets the call again
mainSix months ago Thomas Guggeis, 24, made headlines by jumping in for Christoph von Dohnanyi in Salome, and then landing a big job in Stuttgart.
Now, he has been called back to Berlin to replace Marc Minkowski in a revival of Weber’s Der Freischütz this weekend. Minkowski has suffered a leg injury in a bicycle accident cannot travel.
Nachwuchs! Wonderful!
Can’t wait to hear his Freischutz….
It’s Weber’s Freischütz.
🙂
Not any more, it’s not.
Leg injury, really… James DePriest managed it for quite sometime…as does Itzak Perlam
Idiot
Never heard of Perlam.
This has to be the dumbest posting of the day…
Norman, he already HAD the job in Stuttgart when he jumped in for Salome, for the record. He is great fun to work with/for. I prompted the Salome performances.
Reminds me of the young Carlos Kleiber and his getting pretty good gigs from early in his 20s. In Germany too. Stuttgart was the place where he became a star.
Even though the photo makes him look like Marin Alsop in drag.
Marin’s prettier.
Careful, you’ll irk the MeToo crowd, or whatever they call themselves this week.
Yes, it seems a pretty unusual looking photo.
But lets be thankful that we judge on musical performance rather than looks, age, gender, or any other criteria.
Sadly, the best laugh I’ve had all day. Oh, how true…
