In the past, the maxim was “those who can’t, teach.” Updated to 2018: “those who can’t even write a decent pop song compose operas.”

This individual has nothing to do with serious music but works in the entertainment industry. And his trade is the usual kitsch for the masses:

There are enough composers in America who could write something for the more serious stage, it is puzzling why such a type is chosen to write an opera, and – of all subjects – about Roman emperor Hadrian. It is like asking a toddler to build a house all on his own.

Yes but are you going to order the necklace to wear to the opening night, or not?

JB writes: “This individual has nothing to do with serious music but works in the entertainment industry.”

I am sorry but ALL musicians work in the entertainment industry, even so called “serious musicians”. (And note that all musicians, if they are any good, take their music seriously).
