Ever heard Pierrot Lunaire with full orchestra?
mainIt’s the season-opening commission tomorrow from the Helsingborg Symphony in Sweden.
The arrangement is by Faradzh Karayev.
Myself, I’d prefer Gurrelieder in the solo a capella version.
There is, however, some point to this version. All of Helsingborg’s subscription concerts this season will feature aspects of the 21 poems in Arnold Schoenberg’s PierrotLunaire.
The soloist Sofia Jernberg is Swedish of Ethiopian origin.

It seems a good choice given the mimicri expertise of the composer:

…. which is the piano concerto Stravinsky forgot to write.
There seems to be a version of Gurrelieder for solo viola but it may also be a viola joke.
Sounds like a neat idea. I like listening to string quartets (for example) arranged for full string orchestra, so why not a mixed-instrument chamber piece?
