mainThe death has been announced in Munich of Enoch zu Guttenberg.
A musician of aristocratic lineage, he was born in the village of Guttenberg on the family estate and inherited a large winery.
He conducted the Munich KlangVerwaltung ensemble and in 1999 founded the Festspiele Herrenchiemsee, an impressive summer festival. He was widely engaged by German orchestras and held conservative views on social and cultural issues.
He is the father of the former German defence minister, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg.
The cause of death was ‘a brief, severe illness.’
His full name was: Georg Enoch Robert Prosper Philip Franz Karl Theodor Maria Heinrich John Luitpold Hartmann Gundeloh Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg.
