Peter Ruzicka has decided not to renew his five-year term.

He says: ‘I enjoyed my temporary position, planning and bringing about the Salzburg Easter Festival together with Christian Thielemann – and will continue to do so. I will carry on with full commitment until mid-2020.’

Bad news, since that will give him more time for his tedious compositions and his mediocre attempts at conducting.

  • Olassus says:

    Horrible manager. Good riddance.

    • Sue says:

He speaks well of you, though.

      • Olassus says:

Sue, the Easter Festival is badly run, in contrast to the main festival, where Ruzicka oversaw another period of decline, 2001-2006.

The marketing sidekick, Martin Riegler, is arrogant and dull.

Next year’s Meistersinger has no Eva or David, and both its Sachs (unexpressive) and Beckmesser (vocally worn out) are miscast. Christoph Eschenbach is entrusted with Dvořák’s Te Deum. Et cetera.

        • Olassus says:

The Dvořák is listed as the “Te Deum” here:

… and as the “Stabat Mater” in the detail here:

        • Vienna calling says:

These Meistersinger are cast by the conductor.
