When did I last hear a mandolin concerto? Yesterday, when I listened to a cd of Vivaldi concertos.
Definition of a gentleman…one who knows how to play the (delete as per) mandolin, banjo, bagpipes but choses not to do it in public.
The poor chap seems to be like Larry Adler-startlingly talented on something with very limited appeal.
Chris Thile wrote a terrific mandolin concerto about a decade ago. Audience video on YouTube of one of its rare performances.

But this is a very nice, folky piece, with Middle-Eastern references. It’s a relief that sometimes also something nice comes from that region.
