Judging from the number of similar posts about male conductors: yes.
It’s Maestro, even for the ladies, and not Maestra, which means schoolmistress.
That is factually incorrect. Maestro or Maestra both mean the same in Italian – they simply differentiate between the gender of the person referred to. Some might think that the male form of the word—Maestro—is the only form to be used when referring to a musical master (i.e. not necessarily a conductor, but a distinguished musician), and I suppose they might think that because this has historically been a male-dominated role. However, it would be incorrect to address a female as Maestro.
