Chicago mourns a Reiner violinist, 92
mainFred Spector was hired by Fritz Reiner in 1956 and played on in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra until 2003.
Chicago born, Fred studied as a boy with his uncle J.B. Mazur, former concertmaster of the Czar’s Imperial Orchestra in Saint Petersburg
He died on Saturday at the age of 92.
Here’s a nice remembrance on the CSO website: https://csoarchives.wordpress.com/2017/06/03/remembering-fred-spector/
If I’m not mistaken, he was trained as a lawyer as well, which he put to work in the orchestra’s labor negotiations.
