I’ve great admiration for Slatkin’s conducting ability. Frequently inspired on a good night. Best Tchaikovsky Pathetique I ever heard with him & the Philharmonia some years ago.
But he’s not renowned for his sense of humour (just ask the BBC Symphony) so its good to see him letting his hair down & taking it like a man.
After having worked with him on many occasions for over three decades, my opinion of him as a conductor is still the same: knowledgeable and competent, but rarely inspired and even rarer if ever inspiring. However, he has always been and remains a good storyteller with a fine sense of humor.
I thought he was conducting Nielsen’s 3rd Symphony!
I try to imagine how such gesture would have gone down with Herbert von Karajan.
Lighten up, John
There are several conductors of major orchestras who probably would not mind at all such attention from a jock. Nor would I.
Wasn’t allowed to see it in my country.
As a baseball fan I love this.
I couldn’t see this in the U.S.
