At Helsinki symphony concerts, it’s standing room only
mainThe Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, music director Hannu Lintu, achieved 100 percent attendance last season.
There are literally no seats to be had.
So for the upcoming Mahler Third they are selling standing-room tickets for the first time at the Helsinki Music Centre.
An enviable problem.
Mahler 3. Standing. Tough guys, those Finns.
I would prefer to stand through Mahler 3, rather than stand through two and a half hours of the annual
Strauss Family DebauchNew Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic. Now that would be tough.I once stood through the whole of Tristan at the Vienna Staatsoper. Not a lot of fun, but worth it.
