Berlin Phil concertmaster is given a new car
mainThe lives of professional sports and classical players are converging ever faster.
This is Daishin Kashimoto, first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, receiving his new RX 450h hybrid from Lexus, his sponsor.
Local motor media are running picture and story.
To quote a phrase from a recent thread: “Bitte Deutsch lernen!”. Nowhere in the press release linked is there any mention of Mr. Kashimoto being “given” a car, or of Lexus “sponsoring” him. How about he bought it? A much less interesting “story”, of course, and as we all know, truth should never be allowed to get in the way of a good story.
The press releases from Lexus give every indication that this was the case. They would not otherwise have access to a distinguished musician who bought his car for full payment at a local dealership.

“The press releases give every indication” – so, Mr Lebrecht, you are saying you actually do not know? Oh my…
The Lexus advertising article which Max Grimm linked above doesn’t state that Mr. Kashimoto “received” his car, but that he merely picked it up. Nowhere Lexus claims to be Mr. Kashimoto’s “sponsor”. It stands to reason that his willingness to appear in that press release will have been rewarded with some kind of benefit, but there is no mentioning of it, of course. The rest is a mere fabrication without any factual background.
