What’s the jaunty tune that David Cameron is humming?
mainCheerfully giving up hs job the British prime minster was clearly heard humming a little theme as he walked through his front door at 10 Downing Street.
But which theme?
Could it be the opening of Shostakovich’s first violin concerto?
UPDATE: here’s another clue.
Or maybe the ‘famous’ theme from Tannhauser?
I thought so, too … but his pitch is a little off.

C, C, G, Eb
Or
D, C, G, Eb
F, G, C, D to my ear.
It’s the Teletubbies opening melody.
I had Tannhauser but as it’s minor the opening of Tu Che Le Vanita.
One is the Loneliest Number?
It is the first bit of Siegfried’s theme from the Ring, the one which is mostly played on the horn and in sixth-eight time. The last note of the humming abrubtly glides from the pitch, however, so it sounds as if Siegfried begins optimistically his theme but suddenly remembers having read the programme notes and that it all goes wrong.
Mahler 7 I think
1. War Pigs – Black Sabbath
2. Piggies – Phish
3. Pigs On The Wing 1 – Pink Floyd
4. Pigs In Zen – Jane’s Addiction
5. March Of The Pigs – Nine Inch Nails
6. Pigs – Cypress Hill
7. Pig – Dave Matthews Band
8. Pigs, Sheep And Wolves – Paul Simon
9. Pigs In Space – Mickey Hart
10. Piggy Pie (Old School) – Insane Clown Posse
11. Piggy Bank – 50 Cent
12. Piggy In The Mirror – The Cure
13. Theme tune to Peppa Pig
I sense as theme emerging here…
There was a Pig went Out to Dig – Percy Grainger
It’s Baba the Turk’s aria from The Rake’s Progess, clearly.
Sounds more like the shost 5th symphony to me. An ironic statement of happiness and positivity masking deep despair . Appropriate . Regardless of that he sounds chipper.. Was his next line “who’s fir a pub crawl ?”
+1
On France Inter this morning they came up with this…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmp1sGsHOAg
Gabriela Montero had a little fun with it — you can find it on her FB page. 🙂
