Mozarteum rector faces jail for 15 months for sexual harrassment
mainThe international pianist Siegfried Mauser was sentenced yesterday in Munich to 15 months jail and a 25,000 Euro fine for sexually molesting two female faculty members at the Munich Academy of Music, where he was in charge from 2013 to 2014.
The sentence is a preliminary judgement and may change after further judicial procedures. Mauser, 61, will not go to prison until further arguments are heard.
He was suspended as rector of the Salzburg Mozarteum a week before the trial. The Mozarteum council will meet early this week to decide his professional future.
Court report here.
Norman, as of the current state of things, he will not go to prison either way, as the prison sentence would be suspended and he would be on probation/parole for 15 months (“Siegfried Mauser wurde in München in erster Instanz zu einem Jahr und drei Monaten auf Bewährung verurteilt”).
The conditions of his probation/parole would be (pending the sentence going into effect):
– payment of a €25.000 fine (€1.000 to be paid monthly for a period of 25 months to the IMMA-Initiative für Münchner Mädchen)
– mandatory notification of authorities regarding any possible changes of address and or residence
– not to commit any further criminal acts
Failure to abide by these conditions or the committing of any further criminal acts would then result in him having to serve an actual prison sentence.

Why do you say in the blog post that “he will not go to prison” for the time being yet announce in your headline that he “is jailed”?
Why do you call it “sexual harassment” in the headline and sexual molestation in the post? (They are different things.) Why not go with sexual assault, which seems to be what it was.
One more factual correction to the above report: formally, Mauser went on leave from the Mozarteum, at his own request.

^ or possibly both…
Either you have a very modifiable definition of the word ‘child’ or the children in your country suffer a rather accelerated senescence, if you consider the sexual assault of two women in their 30s to constitute paedophilia.
BTW what is happening about Stefan Arzberger in NY, the ex-leader of Leipzig SQ?
It’s been 14 months since the assault. Are charges still being pressed ? Last I heard he still had his passport taken.
According to the google, the next hearing is scheduled for May 31. There may not be a trial – meaning the prosecutor and defense are negotiating. If there is no trial that means some kind of plea deal. Arzberger’s lawyer is cautiously optimistic.
