Carnegie Hall’s new arts admin has composer pedigree
mainThe person succeeding Kathy Schumann as artistic administrator next month is called Liz Mahler.
She’s presently executive director of a Brooklyn ensemble, The Knights. She’s married to a man called Strauss.
The right pedigree. The correct buzzwords. They will take you far.
Doesn’t “pedigree” require more than simply having the same German-/Yiddish-language surname as others, such as an actual ancestral link?
SO GREAT that art organizations in America carefully consider their priorities:
– Appearing in the socialite’s section of the New York times on the occasion of a wedding: CHECK.
ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE OF ADMINISTRATION??? Who cares…(yes, I forgot, “managing” The Knights is rocket science for many, apparently)
What could possibly go wrong?
