Summer woes: Martha cancels major festival
mainThe biggest draw of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival has pulled out at two weeks’ notice.
Martha Argerich says she has to return ‘to my homeland, Argentina, for personal reasons’.
She has a recital on 26 July and a concert on 29 & 30 July, all with Daniel Barenboim at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.
Consequence of Double booking made by the unreliable Jacques Thélen, her agent.
While I do not know Mr. Thélen or his level of reliability, how is it double booking if Martha Argerich has an engagement on the 10th of July in France, engagements in Germany on the 14th and 15th (which are now cancelled) and finally in Argentina on the 26th-30th of July?
How many careers have taken a quantum leap forward as someone has to step in for a cancelling Martha Argerich?
Just wonderin’.
She has to play at Centro Cultural Kirchner in Buenos Aires on 17 July.
The CCK is a pretty amazing place, regardless of one’s politics. (The name tends to polarize. Imagine, for example, the mixed reactions to a “George W. Bush Center for the Arts”)
Still a work in progress, it represents a tremendous committment to the arts in Buenos Aires. The new hall, the Ballena Azul, as they call it, is quite nice –and very interesting, especially viewed from the “outside” (which is actually inside…go see, you’ll understand)
