Tragic death of tenor and opera house boss
mainThe tenor Vitaly Ishutin, a soloist of the Mariinsky Opera for the past five years, has been killed by a speeding car in Vladivostok as he waited to cross the road.
Ishutin, 40, had been acting as director of the Primorsky Opera and Ballet, which Valery Gergiev is converting into the Pacific wing of the Mariinsky.
Ukrainian born, he leaves a wife and two children. He was widely known and respected across the opera world from repeated tours with the Mariinsky. Flowers are being laid today by well-wishers in the lobby of the Primorsky Opera.
