Sadly, today we don’t have the likes of Victor Borge, Peter Schickele (aka PDQ Bach), or Anna Russell. For their comedy to succeed you have to have audiences that are somewhat familiar with the music – and public interest in the classics is at an all time low.
What a brilliant and hilarious musician! A real inspiration!!
Best musical comedian ever!
AZ Cowboy–Peter Schickele plans to compose a PDQ Bach concerto for me due 2017. As for Borge, he was a rarity. We met once for 3 hours in the 1980s when he was looking for another sidekick pianist. We did the Liszt Rhapsody–not easy–but fun! He decided not to employ me because he felt it would stereotype me as his funny man, which might have hurt my career as a serious artist. Well, it would have been fun, but perhaps he was right. I love his videos, and have all of the PDQ Bach records. Concerto for Horn & Hardart–my favorite!!
