What artists are getting paid in Italy
mainWe’ve just come across this summary by Graham Spicer of a survey by Classical Voice of the fees paid to top conductors, singers and instrumental soloists at the leading Italian opera houses.
The 30,000-Euro fee for international conductors is some way above the European norm.
The rest are pretty average.
When they remember to pay.

Has SImon Rattle even conducted opera in Italy ? Never heard of this.
In fairness the source is “Classic Voice” (not Classical Voice), an Italian site normally online at http://www.classicvoice.com, but at present offline, possibly as a consequence of releasing these numbers. It claims to be “la più letta tra le riviste italiane dedicate alla grande musica” and states the following as well: “Tra i collaboratori di Classic Voice le firme più prestigiose della critica musicale tra cui Angelo Foletto (La Repubblica), Enrico Girardi (Corriere della Sera), Sandro Cappelletto e Alberto Mattioli (La Stampa), Quirino Principe (Il Sole 24 Ore), Dino Villatico (La Repubblica), Elvio Giudici (Quotidiano nazionale, autore del monumentale L’Opera in CD e Video), Mario Messinis (ex Sovrintendente del Teatro la Fenice di Venezia e direttore della Biennale Musica), Guido Salvetti (Presidente della Società italiana di musicologia), Paolo Petazzi (L’Unità), Vittorio Franchini (Corriere della Sera), Jacopo Pellegrini, Gian Paolo Minardi e Carlo Vitali.”
