Church music director, 39, is killed in London bike accident
mainVatican Radio has announced the death of one of the best known musicians in the English Church. Nick Gale, 39, Master of Music at the Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of St George’s Southwark, died yesterday morning in a collision in Kensington between his motorbike and a cement lorry. See here.
This is just awful news. I got to know Nick in 2002 when I was still living in London and when I was the soprano soloist for Rossini’s Stabat Mater at St George’s Cathedral. He was very keen to use me for Britten’s War Requiem but the costing of it all made it impossible. An even sadder day when you hear the cause of death was a bike and a lorry. May he rest in peace.
