Acker Bilk, the English jazz clarinettist and singer, has died at the age of 85.

His trademark hit scored a rare pre-Beatles British #1 in the US charts in 1962.

  • PMcDee says:

That’s Mr. Acker Bilk to you, sir.

  • Greg from SF says:

I loved “Strangers On the Shore” back when it was all over AM radio. It was so different than other pop hits of the time, and his playing – on an old style Albert system clarinet, I believe – was touching and beautiful, as was the tune.

I’ll always remember Mr. Acker Bilk (and it was always MR. Acker Bilk).

Another great musician goes on to the next life…..
