French orchestra boss quits
mainEric Montalbetti, artistic director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, has just quit without notice after differences with the new radio regime. Instability is becoming this season’s fashion in French orchestras.

Dear friends,
comme certains d’entre vous le savent, la semaine dernière a été pour moi le moment d’une décision difficile, et j’ai accepté la rupture de mon contrat avec Radio France.
As some of you may know, it has been last week for me the time to take a difficult decision, and I have agreed to break my contract with Radio France.
Après toutes ces années si intenses, je voudrais simplement témoigner ici du grand bonheur que j’ai eu à travailler pour l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, avec ses musiciens si généreux et passionnés, avec Marek Janowski, qui m’a fait le premier confiance et m’a tant appris, avec Myung-Whun Chung dont la confiance et l’amitié me sont si chères et avec qui l’orchestre s’est épanoui de manière si incroyable, et avec Mikko Franck avec qui je suis heureux d’avoir pu préparer les prochaines saisons.
After all these wonderful years, I would simply like to say here how glad I have been to work for the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, such an amazing group of very generous and enthusiastic players, and with Marek Janowski, who was the first to invite me to work with him and who taught me so much, with Myung-Whun Chung whose trust and friendship are so dear to me and who has developed the orchestra to such an amazing level, and Mikko Franck with whom I am so happy to have prepared the future seasons.
En ce jour où je quitte mes fonctions à Radio France, je tiens à remercier chacun d’entre vous pour votre amitié et tout ce que nous avons pu réaliser et partager ensemble.
S’il est temps pour moi de tourner la page et de me construire de nouvelles perspectives, n’ayant pas ma place dans la nouvelle organisation de la direction de la musique, je pars sans amertume, fier de ce que nous avons pu construire et plein de reconnaissance pour tout ce que l’orchestre et chacun d’entre vous m’ont apporté.
Today, as I have to leave the company, I wish to thank each of you for your friendship and for all what we have produced and lived together.
If it is now time for me to turn the page and create myself a new perspective, it is because I would not have my place in the new structure of Direction de la musique in Radio France, but I leave happy and proud of what we have achieved, and thankful for all what you and the orchestra have shared with me.
