I am sorry to hear this news.
It’s been a bad month for horn players. The Principal Horn of the Russian National Orchestra (also a guest artist with the orchestra of Helikon Opera, and the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre) Anton Raev died just a month ago, of heart failure. Still in his early 40s.
He was a charming man, and I have happy memories of working with him on the Britten Serenade, with British tenor David Barrell. He is greatly missed. In a profession so often marred by petty rivalries, even the horn players of other orchestras nicknamed him “Never-Cracked-A-Note-Anton”. Not a bad way to be remembered.
