Glad to hear news that Decca have created a 17CD bargain priced set to mark Carlo Bergonzi’s 90th birthday. It contains complete operas, Aida,Un Ballo in Maschera, La Traviata, Don Carlo, Rigoletto,IL Trovatore, and four CDs of Verdi and other Italian arias.
I remember a wonderful free open-air concert outside Milan Cathedral in 1984 that Bergonzi gave with piano. Beautifully controlled singing, and my first hearing of ‘Una furtiva lagrima’. These things stick with you…
