A great Met bass has died

Nicola Ghiuselev, one of a succession of dominant Bulgarian bass singers, died in Friday, aged 77.

He sang major roles in all the great houses and left many recordings.

  • John says:

Ghiuselev was a fine artist – I especially remember his wonderful Boris in the first revival of the Tarkovsky Boris Godunov at Covent Garden. But he wasn’t really a Met bass… He sang in a handful of operas there in 1965/66 then it was 25 years before he returned for a final half-dozen performances…

  • Susanne says:

Touche. Outstanding arguments. Keep up the great work.
