Music and the Jews: it’s a woman thing
mainFrom the earliest sketchy discussions with the BBC about doing this series, I was determined that one whole programme should focus on the unsung role of women. Unsung, because banned by rabbis since the 8th century or thereabouts. Role, because woman found ways around the ban to become a crucible of melody and tradition, often passed quietly, mouth to ear.
