The international podium is absolutely awash in Finns, but no Norwegian would (pace the Beatles) get to conduct the Vienna Opera.

Until last night, that is, when Eivind Gullberg Jensen broke the ice in Tosca.

Off topic – but has Herbert Blomstedt ever conducted the VPO ?

    1. Peter Phillips says:

Can’t answer that but Blomstedt is American/Swedish, not Norwegian.

Apparently he is scheduled to conduct them at the Berlin Konzerthaus in May. Also in Vienna in May.

Blomstedt has conducted the VPO a number of times.

      Herbert Blomstedt is Swede.

    My goodness…so many disagreable people…get a liife.

OK – thanks for enlightening me.
I know he is a Swede, I just took a parallel view on Swedish conductors and VPO. I have seen and heard Blomstedt conduct the BPO almost every year (with great success to my ears) but missed out any VPO engagements.
