Japan’s Diaghilev has died
mainThe death has been reported of Tadatsugu Sasaki, Executive Director of the Japan Performing Arts Foundation (NBS) and General Director of The Tokyo Ballet. He was 83.
In terms of ballet development, he was known as the Japanese Diaghilev. With his NBS hat on, he was an important opera and concerts impresario, importing European ensembles on a regular basis.
That is not Sasaki-san. It’s some PR guy. Takahashi?
The photo? Oh yes! It is absolutely the photo of Sasaki-san. Unfortunately.
Yes, it is now. Previously, a copy of the picture seen in this NBS Japan Performing Arts Foundation was posted in the thread-opener.

Norman, the man accepting the title on behalf of Mr. Sasaki is Mr. Norio Takahashi (Standing Director of NBS at the time that picture was taken in 2014).
Here’s a Welt article with a correct picture:

And at the time of that picture (2014), Mr. Sasaki had already been a member of the Légion d’honneur for over 15 years. In 2014 he received the title of “Grand Officier” within the order.
thanks! N
