Paris replaces Wotan with director’s husband
OperaWe hear that the French star Ludovic Tézier has withdrawn from rehearsals and from the first night of the Bastille Opera’s new Rheinegold. He has flu.
He is to be replaced by the Scottish bass-baritone Iain Paterson (pic), who is married to the Paris Opera’s head of casting, Sophie Joyce Paterson.
So, when he hears “Wotan Gemahl, erwache!”, it should sound like home.
Iain is fabulous, one of the best Wotans around. They are very lucky to have secured him.
He was already in Paris since monthes as he was singing in revivals of Rake’s Progress and Cunning Little Vixen.
Oh to be married to a casting director……
