Tip a hat to Grammy-nominated Brian Pidgeon who is, we think, the most prolific record producer in the UK.

Brian has made around 400 recordings. He was Simon Rattle’s first record producer with the Merseyside Youth Orchestra’s Shostakovich 10th in May 1974 and he has recorded countless sessions for Chandos ovwer almost half a century.

In amidst this activity he had two spells as General Manager with major orchestras – Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra 1978 – 1991 and BBC Philharmonic 1991 – 2004.

Who could ask for anything more?

  • Stephen Maddock says:

Fantastic producer, great manager, top person. And what a legacy of great recordings!

  • Saxon Broken says:

Is this limited to classical music, or does it include all genres?

  • John Borstlap says:

A bit of real musical insight instead of superficial wrapping paper interest would indeed be more.

I met Brian years ago and I was not impressed by his musical understanding, to put it mildly.

Meanwhile one can still be a good manager, producer, etc. etc. as long as you lean on other people’s expertise as to content.

  • IMSLP COMPOSER/PERFORMER/EDITOR/PRODUCER says:

400 recordings is a trivial amount of recordings for a classical producer who has spent their life doing it.

I have made personally over 700 classical recordings that I have also performed on.

But I guess you’re a media outlet who only talks about people in the elite crew/club.

But yeah tell everyone he’s the most prolific. Without doing any research into the subject you profess to know so much about.

Give the lies a rest will you..
