CBSO upgrades artistic planning
OrchestrasThe City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra has promoted violinist Catherine Arlidge to the role of director of artistic planning.
It has been a turbulent year for the CBSO.
Arlidge is presently Sub Principal Second Violin of the CBSO as well as Artistic and Educational Director of the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain.
Fantastic appointment! She’s done amazing work in multiple spheres of the music business. Fully deserving of her new role!
Superb appointment. Arlidge is well-respected across the industry. Us audience members look forward to seeing her work in action. Bravo, CBSO.
An actual musician.
Sounds like a good idea.
In theory, yes. I am regularly amazed by what limited repertoire knowledge many musicians have though. Not to mention the whole “who’s who” thing. Also the managing a budget thing and you know, all the actual paperwork that comes with the job.
Nevertheless, Catherine will be brilliant.
Most people in artistic planning roles are musicians and have extensive musical training. Just because they don’t currently play in a professional orchestra doesn’t preclude them from being an “actual musician.”
A great loss to the wonderful NCOGB. Good luck to her…
