Turin finally fills the slot
OperaSix and a half years after the tumultuous departure of Gianandrea Noseda, the Teatro Regio in Turin has finally appointed another music director.
He is Andrea Battistoni, 37, a versatile musician from Verona. He is a published composer who has been principal condcutor of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has also worked intemittently with rock and pop musicians.

I’ve had the honour to play once under Battistoni. He is lively and an excellent musician.
21st century culture.
Just because he has worked at times with popular musicians? Bernstein did that in the previous century, and earlier still, Stokowski conducted the music accompaniment to a cartoon. 😉
He’s a marvellous conductor and musician, it will be a great partnership.
Versatile seems the good choice of words…
Isn’t he The Cure’s singer?
First of all, I am shocked and disappointed that neither Klaus from Finland nor Nézet-Séguin were offered Turin, as it would have added further illustrious credits to their bios and increased their frequent flyer miles. But I I’m am reassured that he has worked with pop musicians in terms of his Woke credentials. He looks like someone in a Tim Burton film, but that will help draw audiences.
