Still planning Russian tours at 98
balletThe unstoppable impresaria Lilian Hochhauser, 98 this weekend, has been temporarily inconvenienced by the Russia-Ukraine war. As soon as it’s over, she tells us, she’ll bring back the Bolshoi to its former touring glories,.
Happy birthday, Lilian.
Wishing Lilian the happiest of birthdays and many more to come. Decades ago I was discussing several concerts for a conductor she was helping when the matter of afternoon tea at The Ritz somehow arose. “You mean you have never had afternoon tea at The Ritz?” she exclaimed with some surprise. She remedied that omission by entertaining me to the legendary afternoon tea the following afternoon. One of the industry’s loveliest ladies.
The Bolshoi is as glorious as ever, all that’s changed is that western countries have deprived themselves of it.
Why would that be, one wonders. Maybe something has happened, that nobody noticed?
