The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra’s president and managing director Jon Limbacher has given notice he will retire a year from now. Limbacher, 62, will have led the group for nine years.

Six months ago, Kyu-Young Kim resigned as artistic director, apparently over Limbacher’s plans to reduce the concert season.

A small cloud has become a big one.

The wokest orchestral ensemble in the U.S. having difficulties? Wow that’s awful..how will I ever sleep again?

    • Use Some Common Sense says:

      Their concerts presented in November:
Nov 1-3 (Beethoven Fifth, along with Stravinsky)
Nov 14-17 (Hadyn 60, along with Sibelius, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn)
Nov 22-23 (Tchaikovsky Seasons, plus Shostakovich and Prokofiev)
Nov 29-Dec 1 (Copland Appalachian Spring, plus Gershwin, Ellington, and Ives)

Do you minding explaining to me how this is the “wokest orchestra” in America, or how their downfall could be based on the “wokeness” of the above repertoire?

To my eye, as a well educated musician, the selected repertoire for November is entirely classics by canonic composers.

I hear them regularly (and have watched their evolution since 1969) and can tell you they are one fantastic ensemble, performing to world standards with an incredibly varied repertoire. Your comment is off-base.

    • Noah L says:

Like every dolt using the term woke as a pejorative you probably couldn’t even use it in a sentence.

  • Denise says:

This ensemble is a gem in America and should be preserved at all costs. There is no other group like it in the USA.
