Biz news: Saariaho’s daughter gets agency
OrchestrasLondon-based MaestroArts has signed the young French-Finnish conductor Aliisa Neige Barrière.
Daughter of the late composer Kaija Saariaho, Aliisa was mentored in Helsinki by Jorma Panula and studied at the Sibelius Academy under Sakari Oramo, graduating last year.
She says: ‘Standing in front of a mass of people is a very physical experience. The sound enters your body – maybe even more so with an orchestra than a choir. It felt satisfying and beautiful – impossible to forget. To this day, I still love the physical experience of being with an orchestra. To some extent, you can have that experience listening to live concerts, although the conductor might have the best spot.’
Lets hope her playing is better than her mother’s composing skills.
She doesn’t play, she conducts. Make sure that you have your facts straight before insulting the memory of a respected composer.
You must practice being abhorrent to be so good at it at this time of the morning.
Absolutely disgusting…
You are right every parent hope that their children will surpass them. K S a leading composer and major artist of our time would be delighted ( in heaven) if her daughter would become a fantastic maestra.
