Detroit hires new suit
OrchestrasThe Detroit Symphony has hired Martin Sher of the New World Symphony as V-P and Chief Artistic & Operating Officer, a new position.
The top floor already consists of President & CEO Erik Rönmark, V-P and Chief Revenue Officer Jill Elder, and V-P and Chief Financial & Administrative Officer Linda Lutz. There is also a Senior Director of Artistic Planning Jessica Ruiz.
The NWS is in Florida. Detroit has a bitter winter. Go figure.
It’s a tradeoff. The weather in Miami is also unbearable for much of the summer, and of course, you’re subjected to Florida’s bats**t crazy politics. Detroit’s summers are brief but pleasant, and the city has become a happening arts destination.
That’s why so many families are moving to Detroit! Great schools, honest government, low crime, smooth roads, and well manicured lawns.
Great schools is not a description that can be applied to Florida. Nor honest government and low crime. Roads might have been smooth and lawns well-manicured prior to the hurricanes going through, but I have my doubts.
Actually, you’re right on much of this. They have an excellent mayor in Mike Duggan, who has overseen a huge road repaving initiative (among other infrastructure improvements). And there are some beautifully manicured lawns in neighborhoods like Indian Village and Lafayette Park. And violent crime has dropped 15% in the past year. In all, a great place to live and start a family.
Detroit has a fabulous orchestra and top-flight venues. Smart move for this very accomplished manager.
Quite right
That’s a great suit to hire! Congrats, Marty and the DSO. Win for all.
