Label news: Universal acquires Harmonia Mundi owner

The once-independent French classical label, based in Arles, was bought out by the Belgian group Pias in 2015.

Two years ago, Universal took a 49% stake in Pias.

Today it absorbed the rest of the company.

What happens to HM has yet to be clarified.

    I don’t think it is a good trend when very big companies devour smaller ones. Because what mostly happens is that all innovative, independent thinking evaporates and everything becomes the usual average mediocre stuff, diversity disappears, and power is centralized. The result is impoverishment and dehumanization.
