Cliff Richard, 84, plans Australia and UK tours
NewsThe archetype British popster has enviable stamina. For his 85 birthday a year from now, he has announced tours Down Under and back home.
Can’t be be long before he duets with Domingo.
They are practically twins.
Enough to give anyone Rigamortus.
Ageist much?
Mind you, I had no idea Sir Cliff was so big in Australia. For reasons I do not know — timing, maybe — he never caught on in North America, where his name is practically unknown. I can understand a British tour, as his place in British life is a longtime constant, but it’s interesting if the much more British-focused Down Under also responded to him in a way the US, and the US_dominated Canadian music scene, never did.
Big in Australia? Really? He’s been huge there for a long time. He duetted with Olivia Newton-John on “Suddenly,” one of her biggest hits of the early 80s. Check it out. Great song. Featured in the movie Xanadu.
Riga mortis. If you mean the phenomenon.
Are you people referring, unkindly, to rigor mortus? Or is there some phenomenon unknown to most of us?
Yes, I’d be very happy to be as healthy as Cliff Richard at his age. But singing wouldn’t be on the agenda, no matter how great my voice had been. Once.
God help them all!
The young Harry Webb from, Cheshunt owes admirer and mentor Lionel Bart everything
I wonder why. Richard hated the original song Bart wrote for him “Living Doll”. After others had tinkered with it and reduced the tempo, it ended up top of the UK charts for 6 weeks.
Bart went bankrupt in 1972. So desperate was he that in an attempt to remain solvent he sold all the rights to his huge hit ‘Oliver’ to the comedian and singer Max Bygraves for £350 – this was even after the movie version had won 6 oscars including Best Picture. Bygraves later sold them for £250,000!
