Did you attend a screening of The Jersey Boys expecting a pastoral meditation on childhood life in the Channel Islands?
Have you ever heard of a TV programme called Jersey Shore? I’ve never seen it, but I would be prepared to go bail that it is not about the island to which you refer.
Jersey, in the Channel Islands, does have a Symphony Orchestra. They perform twice a year — once in summer, once at Christmas. Maybe you thought its schedule suited Joshua Bell’s commitment better…
This is an interesting move. More mid-level orchestras should consider bringing in a “name” principal guest to amp up seasonal interest.
No reason against the idea. But a commitment for just one week-end a season? That is a pure PR stunt.
