1) The designer, Rosemarie Umetsu, also dresses Lang Lang, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and most improbably … Pinchas Zuckerman?!
2) Poor Yuja, at the beginning of her career she could afford to pay for a full length gown, now, she only makes enough to buy the same amount of fabric in order to make 5 outfits, lately, it seems she can afford only to buy straps and bits of strings. Let’s all do our part for this auction so that Yuja can buy whole dresses again.
As to 2): yes, because this tendency of reduction may result in what we all fear most.
As soon as I saw the client list (which includes Zukerman’s wife) I realised that a very high proportion were Canadian artists or artists I had seen in Canada. And, indeed, she is Toronto-based. My only surprise is that Yannick is not on the client list. Maybe she operates on the basis that the clients pay her for their clothes, not the other way around.
But will she be auctioning off the street clothes she wore while dating KM?
I think there may be a current market for those in Oslo and Paris, with added markets yet to come in Amsterdam and Chicago.
She injects energy into classical/old music at all levels…
True enough. But her playing is so mannered that I can hardly listen these days.
It depends on the repertoire. How do you like this? I don’t find it mannered.

All the music needs and ever needed has always been there.
Oh what a surprise on this blog, more men feeling the need to make snide comments about the length of Yuja’s hemlines. Would be lovely if just once she could feature without the completely unnecessary and unwarranted judgement.
When you dress yourself expressly to draw attention . . . You get attention.
Yes, that toxic patriarchy forcing Yuja to auction off her gowns for personal profit, cis-hetero-men, just shut the fuck up and bid, there’s a reason why auctions are silent, Yuja wants your money not your unnecssary and unwarranted judgement
Quite a few responses to Yuja posts focus on the music. Speaking of which, I totally look forward to hearing her in Philadelphia next January. I’ll be seating at the top balcony, center right. That’s an acoustically good spot. End of story.
“top balcony, center right”
but you won’t see anything ; )
Why spend more money for an acoustically comparable or inferior seat?
The Ebay listing does not reflect the proceeds are going to any charity, which I find rather disappointing…………..
Charity begins at home. Apparently.
Buy them up yourself, hold them for a decent interval, then sell and donate the proceeds to charity of your choosing.
Nobody seems to realize that the scant clothing of Ms Wang is a warning campaign against climate change.
If they make me play like her, I’ll wear one!
I find the whole interest in her physical appearance vulgar, but also self-vulgarizing, and that’s her fault, because it’s attention-seeking and ultimately affects her playing. Hopefully, she will grow up, and then maybe her absolute genius talent will connect with some real maturity, which will elevate her playing to the truly highest levels. Ditto Lang Lang, though not regarding the clothing.
Classical music should shun the whole commercialization pop-culture vibe.
Just the thoughts of a snobbish old fart.
No, the thoughts of normality and common sense.
I think there is a strong market for this in Japan…
What made you think the seller is Yuja herself? There is no verification. The shipping is from Las Vegas where she has no residence. In today’s virtual cyber world, we shouldn’t fall into anything.
She posted it on her Instagram site.
It’s useless to her now, because whatever secrets this lovely gown once held have long since been exposed….
It says size “small”. This is rather unhelpful if the purchaser intends wearing it (to the Opera let’s say). My guess is she’s a US Size 2. There’s only 1 bid so far (at the initial offer of $1500). Not a bad deal for a dress that nice…..
