Jorma Panula turns 94
OrchestrasThe world’s most productive conducting teacher celebrated his latest birthday this weekend – with a concert, of course.
If you follow through the Instagram chain, you will find ex-pupil Mikko Franck bashing the percussion.
Anyone bashing their teacher?
Well. https://slippedisc.com/2014/03/women-conductors-its-not-getting-any-better-only-worse/
Well, yes, gender is a biological issue.
Conducting is a cultural phenomenon.
Point is, plenty of “students bashing their teacher” over this – Esa-Pekka Salonen at the top of the list.
He’s had at least a female student since (Slipped Disc mentions Emilie Hoving; NYT mentions Dalia Stasevska). No indication he’s changed his broader views, though – and no apology either.
Female conductors is against nature, just like gay marriage, as we all know.
Odd that he orchestrated and conducted Alma Mahler’s Lieder?
Panula made a great recording of the Sibelius “Kullervo,” with the Turku orchestra. Terse…impressive….
And that’s about it.
