Dutch activist, RIP
RIPI very much regret the loss of Sytze Smit, campaigning editor of the excellent magazine Entr’acte.
A former violinist in the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Sytze relentlessly called out cliques and corruption in Dutch musical life.
He went on to become conservatorium director at Entschede and artistic advisor to the Amman Symphony Orchestra.
It is extremely courageous to lift the lid of the couldron of Dutch music life, even if it’s merely on a very small chink: one needs a very strong olfactory organ to bear the smell.
