We are receiving conflicting reports on the state of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra.

One is that it has taken three-year residency in a small German town, Monheim am Rhein.

Another is that it has sought permanent exile.

Some of the male players are said to fear frontline conscription if they return home.

In the absence of firsthand information, all reports must be treated with extreme caution.

Chay Bowes is a well known Russian stoge who works for RT. Miinformation is his game. https://www.rte.ie/news/world/2023/0630/1392098-un-chay-bowes/

  • Nielsen Carl says:

It was said million times – the loudest voices are sitting safely in their homes with electricity, full fridge and laptop. They hate Russians, Ukrainians, Palestinians, Israelis. So please support Kyiv Orchestra! Help us destroy Russians!

    • Mike says:

How does the support for the Kyiv Symphony correlate with destroying Russians? The latter is supposed to occur at the battlefield (not in cozy apartments or on the Internet, as you rightly suggested). The former is an act of helping colleagues from a common musical brethren.

    • Tamino says:

You are overstepping in your hatred, when you call for „destroying Russians“. Destroying Putin‘s regime in Moscow would be a morally just call for action, not the genocide you suggest.

  • Yuri K says:

True or not, this reminds me how Albert Speer managed to save the members of Berlin Philharmonic from being drafted into Volkssturm and they gave their last concert on April 12, 1945 in his honor. After the concert members of Hitlerjugend reportedly distributed capsules of cyanide to whoever wished to commit suicide.

  • Gennadi says:

Reminds me of a story from Soviet Times. What do you call a Russian String Quartet? A Russian Symphony Orchestra returning home from a tour in the West…

  • V. Lind says:

The source you post is rather disreputable in decent circles. As is evident in his illiterate and offensive tweet.

Now confirmed to be Russian misinformation:

On June 18, Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation has published a selection of anti-Ukrainian fakes that were published in the world media.

Disinformation: Irish journalist Chay Bowes posted on his X page: “The entire Kyiv Symphony Orchestra has refused to return to Kyiv and has sought political asylum in Germany.”

Refutation: In reality, the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra will be based in the German city of Monheim am Rhein for three years, invited to join the Monheimer Kulturwerke, an organization that coordinates cultural events. Martin Witkowski, the director of the company and initiator of the invitation, stated that the decision to invite the Ukrainian orchestra was based on its outstanding reputation.

    • soavemusica says:

An entire orchestra just happens to reside 3 years abroad, after an international Peace Summit – to which Russia was not invited?

The average Ukrainian soldier is 43-years-old.

In February 2022, the average Ukrainian soldier was between 30 and 35 years old.

Never mind doing the math: “Glory to Ukraine!”.

      Show must go on.

It is time for Norman to come out of hiding and provide an answer to the allegations. Only a dishonest man would refuse to provide an answer.

“The public representative of the campaign is a British music critic by the name of Norman Lebrecht who resides in London and currently serves a director of the following three registered companies: Lebrecht Investments LTD, Slippedisc LTD, and Orphios Limited. Lebrecht previously established a reputation as an unethical tabloid-style writer who repeatedly defamed musicians, and subsequently lost a high-profile lawsuit filed against him in 2007. Following the loss of his reputation from that lawsuit, he transitioned into conducting a campaign against Russian musicians through his web site slippedisc.com which is disguised as a general-purpose tabloid site. Lebrecht first registered the site in 2012, but began developing content much earlier as the site contains articles back-dated prior to 2012. Ukrainian nationalists also play a prominent role in the campaign by serving as agitators with whom Lebrecht coordinates his activities. The large scale of effort and organization of the campaign is indicative that it is funded by a government agency with deep pockets. Lebrecht’s articles contain evidence that he sometimes coordinates activities with minority political factions within Russian society who have inside knowledge of governmental functions.

This is rather wonderful black Kremlin propaganda. All lies, of course. NL has never lost a lawsuit, is not a director of one of the companies listed and does not coordinate with Ukrainians, Russian minorities or extraterrestrials. Apart from that…

vk.com is a Russian social media network, and you expect to find the truth in it? Or are you yet another Russian shill?

      • thornbird says:

Actually, it’s not being censored thoroughly. Most opinions can freely be posted in it. At least for now.

    • Yaron says:

Sounds much like the BS published by Pravda during the show trials in the Stalinist era. These are wondrous times: Cultural Zhdanovism dominates the west by PC & Woke – and now the late Andrei Wishinsky seems to have been resurrected!

  • Roger Rocco says:

I hope they can find sanctuary until the madness ends! Germany is a country that values music above all artistic endeavors! Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner…

  • Ade says:

This fake news is now fully discredited and should be removed from the Slipped Disc site and replaced by a piece on Russian disinformation.
