It’s folklore pop, mixed with identity politics.
With classical music it has nothing to do. It should never ever claim to be a kind of classical music.
As with your previous posts about oboists and their supposed concurrent positions, you need to pay more attention to details in bios. Nathalie Joachim was indeed a founding member of eighth blackbird, but hasn’t been part of that ensemble for some sixteen years at least by now.
LoL she was NOT a founding member of eighth blackbird, duh!! eighth blackbird came out in the mid-90s when I was in high school. They were white as could be. And Nathalie was my classmate at Juilliard, well after eighth blackbird was in existence. She joined them after. And, I also agree that what Nathalie is doing now isn’t classical music, but, she has that Juilliard degree, so go figure.
The founding flutist of eighth blackbird was Molly Barth. Nathalie was the ensemble’s third flutist (following Molly and then Tim Munro).
Woke music = empty concerts halls = end of the industry
Not from what I am experiencing. I am sure your emotional observation is one that has been repeated, though in different wording, for many decades. My grandson enjoys seeing operas both new and traditional. He does not know he is not supposed to dislike “woke” opera.
