German-French orchestra plays salute to Israel
OrchestrasThe Kammerorchester der Großregion is giving a celebratory concert next Monday in the Saarbrücken Synagogue to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel.
The program includes the “String Symphony in E Minor” by Felix Mendelssohn, the “Prelude for Strings” by Paul Ben-Haim and the “Transfigured Night” by Arnold Schönberg. The work “De Profundis” by the Israeli composer and Saarbrücken honorary citizen Tzvi Avni will also be performed. The orchestra will perform under the direction of its conductor Stefan Bone, Kapellmeister of Kiel State Opera. The Prime Minister of Saarland, Anke Rehlinger, will open the concert with a greeting.
The concert starts a series of events to demonstrate solidarity with the Jewish community in Saarland and beyond.

Perhaps they should play

Oof Israelis have an oversized representation in classical music. Free Palestine and fnck Israel.
It’s because they’re intelligent and motivated.
Moderator (Norman) perhaps such racist comments could be banned? Thanks.
Could care less about Israel, but Palestine has got to be un-Hamas’ed in the worst possible way.
Ignorant and thus easily brainwashed.
To be fair, maybe another orchestra can play a counterpoint salute to the oppressed Palestinians.
Yes, a salute to their remarkable achievement of squandering the giving of Gaza and instead of building the beginnings of a state, launching wave after wave of bombings and attacks, culminating in the (not so) proud achievement of October 7th (which the PA hasn’t even been able to bring itself to condemn).
Rank ignorance of reality.
What is fair about supporting terrorists?
Bravo to them.
Who would not want to express solidarity with the Israeli people for their loss last October. The sad thing is this will inevitably be seen as support for actions condemned by the United nations, UNICEF and many other independent human rights organisations as well as governments. Maybe the orchestra will find a way to show support for human rights in all countries? These seem like nice nice well meaning young people who may be in over their heads.
You are clearly in over your head, believing the corrupt statements presented by systemically anti-Semitic UN organizations and others.
Today Joe Biden has sent a signal to Israel that enough is enough. Has he become anti Semitic too? All the journalists and camera crews showing us what is really going on are anti Semitic? These journalist report as they have done from war zones around the world. Have they become anti Semitic? Why would independent charities helping helping a starving people be anti Semitic? The young freelance orchestra I am sure would share the same sense of humanity and would be abhorred at the suffering. If I am right would this make them anti Semitic?
Judge – You are accused of murder. How do you plead?
Defendant – Not guilty. He attacked me, so I killed him in self defence.
Judge – Fair enough. You’re allowed to defend yourself. By the way, do you have any idea why he attacked you?
Defendant – Well, I suppose it might be because years ago, my ancestors kicked his ancestors out of their home and moved in. At least, that’s what his lot said. My ancestors said that it was their home and always had been.
Judge – Well, that’s not my area of expertise. Did anyone try to settle the issue at the time?
Defendant – Well, the UN tried to resolve it, but my ancestors just ignored them and carried on doing what they wanted.
Judge – Be that as it may, it’s still no excuse for attacking you. However, you might want to avoid doing stuff like stealing people’s homes and land. It tends to make them a bit cross. Just something to bear in mind for the future.
Defendant – Thanks for the advice, your honour. I’ll be sure to completely ignore it. There is something else though.
Judge – Oh, what’s that?
Defendant – After I killed my attacker, I also killed all his family and friends. And just to be doubly sure, I killed anyone and everyone who might have known him, even a little bit.
Judge – You can’t do that, you silly person. That’s mass murder, not self defence.
Defendant – How dare you accuse me of mass murder. That’s anti-semitic!!
Judge – Oh , sorry. I didn’t realise. You’re free to go. By the way – here’s a large sum of money so you can buy lots and lots of weapons to keep defending yourself. Just try and keep the slaughter of innocent people down a bit, OK?
Defendant – Right ho, your honour.
Rank. Glad that REAL orchestras aren’t embarking on this nonsense.
Stefan was one of my ‘classmates’ under a private teacher. Swell guy!
I have not heard of even one orchestra in the USA doing this. The programming director of the Philadelphia Orchestra did not even respond to such a suggestion.
