Death of Messiaen’s Japanese pupil
RIPThe Japanese composer Makoto Shinohara has died aged 92 of stomach cancer.
Dropping out of Tokyo University of the Arts, he studied with Olivier Messiaen in France and Karlheinz Stockhausen in Germany before settling in the Netherlands, where he worked on fusions of Japanese instruments and electronic music.
