Gets to do rather more than play solos at the Proms, but good luck to whoever wants to wade through all the usual W1A* “values and behaviours” word salad…

Good luck to any applicants not already in a major position elsewhere. At the recent Associate Principal Timpani audition, only one of the trialists were actually selected from the audition, the rest were auto-advanced to a trial with no prior explanation. Really makes you wonder if the musician selection system in the UK is all that meritocratic.
It is established practice for candidates with serious professional experience under their belt whose playing is known to the audition committee to go straight to trial, what’s the problem?
