Death of formidable voice teacher, 103
RIPNew Zealand is mourning the passing of Honor McKellar, one of the country’s most successful singing teachers, who died on Friday in a care home at Alexandra.
Born in Dunedin, she studied in London at the Royal Academy of Music and returned a while later to sing as a mezzo in the Glyndebourne Chorus and the John Alldis Choir while studying privately with the baritone Roy Henderson.
As professor at the University of Otago, her students included Patrick Power, Jonathan Lemalu, Martin Snell and Matthew Landreth.
