Munich goes double batty
OperaPress release from Bavarian State Opera:
Dear visitors,
We would like to inform you about the following change:
In today’s performance Die Fledermaus, Diana Damrau will stage the role of Rosalinde and speak the dialogues. Laura Aikin will sing the vocals from the side.
Damrau should be solely speaking anyway instead of pretending to sing.
Grotesque nonsense.
Tis the season to be indisposed!!!
From what I saw of the live stream, that would be an improvement, as would doing something similar with a mezzo for Orlofsky, and dispensing with some of the Conchita Wurst than most chorus…
The star of this production is Katharina Konradi
Damrau sounded awful on New Year’s eve. The production is ghastly. Any soprano would do a better job.
For many years Damrau is an insut to the opera. She should never be on stage in München in a first place.
