Top English percussionist dies after a fall
RIPThe funeral will take place today of Martin Allen, one of the country’s most virtuosic percussion players.
We have received this message:
I’m sorry to have to pass on the news that poor Martin died on 3 December. As the result of a fall he developed a serious brain haemorrhage, and died with Vicki by his side.
I know it’s short notice, but the funeral is on Wednesday 3 January, at 12.30pm at West Norwood Crematorium and Cemetery, with a short get together afterwards.
A sometime member of Lontano, the Gavin Bryars Ensemble and the London Sinfonietta, Martin Allen performed regularly at the Proms with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He had a Proms solo writren for him by Sir Harrison Birtwistle.
